It’s FRIDAY and time for the WEEKEND GUIDE!
Course for the Force is happening today, Friday July 12, as a precursor to Comic-Con next week. This Star Wars Relay-Run for Charity will be rolling through (it’s a run from SF to Sand Diego) with a festival in Santa Monica. The Spazmatics will be performing at the Santa Monica Pier at 4:30 today. If you’re on the west side, check it out. Star Wars outfits are encouraged.
Also tonight, iam8bit gallery is hosting a Robot Chicken presentation of Friendship All-Stars of Friendship: The Art Show. The pieces are all generated by artists and friends of Robot Chicken, and then the proceeds go to the Echo Park charity, 826LA. Golden Road will be supplying beer and Origami Vinyl will be spinning tunes. RSVP HERE.
Head downtown on Saturday July 13th in the evening (6-9p) to learn about animals and stargaze at a Campfire Event at LA’s Historic Park. Doesn’t that sound fun? Bring blankets to layout and watch the stars with experts telling you about the constellations.
Maybe afterward head further into downtown to check out a free concert in Pershing Square Downtown Stage 2013. The Psychedelic Furs and Badwater are playing from 8-10pm. Free with lawn seating.
If the Psychedelic Furs aren’t your cup of tea, hit up the Getty’s Saturday’s Off The 405 from 6-9pm on Saturday for a free concert by Pickwick in the Getty courtyard. It’s free and no reservations are required, but I recommend carpooling and getting there early since it can get packed.
On Sunday July 14th, check out Unique LA downtown. It costs $10 to enter, but a portion of the money goes to the 826LA charity. This price includes unlimited entry for both Saturday and Sunday, free cocktails, a free photo booth, and food trucks.
El Show! is happening on Sunday at El Cid in Silverlake. The show is $5 and starts at 8p. Come early and get food and drinks. This months show features Ron Lynch, Jonah Ray, Power Violence, Shawn Pearlman, Borts Minorts, Kali Kazoo, Joe Wengert, Courtney Pauroso, Cale Hartmann and the Yip Yip Sisters. That’s a packed night!
